Hours before the Burnsini Vineyards Tasting Room opens for business, the Harvest Moon begins to set behind the oaks. Harvest began this year on August 24th. Just one day later than last year. Winemaker Brandi explains how remarkable this is considering before bud break, the vines were one month behind due to the late spring rains.
It has gone so stinkin’ fast this year.

Historically, the Merlot vines ripen first. Earlier that week, they had achieved 25 bricks [of sugars]. Pickers confirmed, they taste delicious.
The Merlot are the smallest clusters. Cabernet are of similar size and ripen next. Last to harvest are the varieties featured at Burnsini Vineyards with the largest clusters. Zinfandel and Sangiovese boast clusters weighing more than a pound each!
It has not been a hot summer. The surprise August showers required extra care of the vines. The fruit that was not scorched by the rains are very high quality.
These grapes are so good!
